According to AllThingsD, Apple is planning a keynote event the week of September 7th, a time the company has traditionally used to unveil new products. Although it’s still unclear whether that event will include an Apple Tablet announcement, another intriguing rumor surrounding the eagerly anticipated device also caught our eye this morning by way of Gizmodo: that it will come in two editions, one featuring a webcam and one focused on the education market. The publication’s source also says that the Apple tablet “will cost $700 to $900,” consistent with earlier reports. Once again, the actual release date of the product is pegged as “this holiday season,” and the screen is listed at 10 inches. But why the two editions, and why does that price point, which is substantially higher than other netbooks, keep coming up? According to Gizmodo’s source, Apple sees the product fitting in between iPhone/iPod Touch and MacBook, both in price and functionality… Read on at Mashable.com

Apple Tablet Gets Possible Launch Date: Week of September 7th
iTunes 9: Blu-ray And App Organization And Twitter, Oh My?
This is completely a rumor, but an awesome one. Citing a “pretty reliable” source, Boy Genius Report is saying that the next version of iTunes will add a bunch of new, highly requested features. Specificially, BGR’s source says iTunes 9 features BluBlu
-ray support, a new way to organize iPhone apps within iTunes, as well some kind of integration with TwitterTwitter
, FacebookFacebook
and possibly Last.fm.
Each of those features have been talked about for some time now on the web. But as BGR notes, the talk of Blu-ray does line itself up well with an AppleInsider report from yesterday that very vaguely suggested Apple has new iMacs due shortly with features that have long been on the wish-lists of Mac owners. Blu-ray is certainly on that list, and seems like a pretty good candidate, despite Steve Jobs’ calling the format a “bag of hurt” as recently as October of last year… Read on at TechCrunch.com
Apple Tablet Launch in September?
Rumors of an Apple tablet – essentially a large iPhone or iPod touch – have been swirling for over a year. Today the Financial Times is adding credibility to the rumors, reporting that Apple is rushing to debut the device in time for the Christmas shopping season. The article swings back and forth between the new device and a series of record label deals Apple could launch simultaneously, but here are the points specifically related to the tablet:
Screen size: “may be up to 10 inches diagonally”, touch sensitive (of course)
Phone capability? Unlikely – it’s more like a large iPod Touch than an iPhone.
Wireless connectivity: Same as the iPod Touch, with the ability to download media through iTunes.
Kindle Rival? May provide the ability to read books, creating a rival to Amazon’s Kindle.
Launch date: By Christmas, possibly as early as September… Read on at Mashable.com
Will Google Chrome OS Bring Us the Mythical GDrive?
Last week, GoogleGoogle
announced some interface changes to their Google DocsGoogle Docs
service that are designed to make finding your files easier. The changes are relatively minor – the “shared with” list has gone away, there’s a new “Sharing” menu, and you now have the ability to save your searches – but that hasn’t stopped some bloggers from theorizing that the shiny new UI is bringing us one step closer to the often theorized, yet never realized, “Google Drive” service, aka “your hard drive in the cloud.” Although we know this service exists in some form as an internal tool, Google has yet to release a version for public use. But with the latest announcements about the new ChromeChrome
operating system, we wonder: will Google Drive finally become a reality thanks to Chrome OS? Read on at ReadWriteWeb.com
Rumor: Apple to Launch Tablet With Verizon
The Street is reporting that Apple will launch the highly anticipated (and rumored) tablet with Verizon. Now, we’ve heard rumors that Verizon could be getting a CDMA variant of the iPhone at some point in the near future, but no one in China has leaked such a thing. According to Scott Moritz’s sources, Apple and Verizon “won’t be as tightly integrated” as Apple and AT&T and the rumored tablet has been ready for roughly a year. The kicker here is that, Verizon would subsidize the cost of the tablet without giving potential customers sticker shock… Read on at CrunchGear.com
