Sign-In to MySpace With … Facebook?

facebook-iconIt could be the ultimate admission of defeat, or, a pretty smart move given its current strategy. According to The Telgraph, MySpaceMySpaceMySpace is currently discussing a partnership with FacebookFacebookFacebook where music and video content published to MySpace could easily be shared on Facebook via Facebook Connect.

How far that Connect implementation might go isn’t clear, but Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg tells The Telegraph, “MySpace could become a Facebook Connect partner – which would allow people to share content they liked from MySpace with their Facebook network.” MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta, who used to work at Facebook, confirms the talks with the paper…

MySpaceID Comes To The Windows Live Family

myspace-idMySpaceID, the social network’s login platform that’s comparable to Facebook Connect, is coming to Windows Live and its sister properties, including Windows Live’s main portal, Windows Live MessengerWindows Live MessengerWindows Live Messenger, and Hotmail. In short, the new functionality will allow users to import their recent MySpaceMySpaceMySpace notifications into these Microsoft properties, which rank among the web’s most popular services.

Beginning today, you’ll be able to automatically view blog posts, recent photo uploads, your friends’ status updates, and shared music without having to head back to the main MySpace portal. The feature uses activitystrea.ms, the protocol that’s also used by FacebookFacebookFacebook and OperaOperaOpera.

MySpaceID launched at around the same time as Facebook Connect, but so far it hasn’t seen nearly as much distribution. Still, it continues to make some steady progress — last March it launched a major update to the platform that enabled the stream syndication features we’re seeing today on Microsoft’s sites.

MyTwitFace: TweetDeck Adds Major Facebook and MySpace Features

tweetdeckTweetDeckTweetDeckTweetDeck is fast becoming the de facto accessory for social media fanatics. The Twitter desktop application is certainly seeing formidable competition, mainly from the likes of SeesmicSeesmicSeesmic, or web-based alternatives, but their ultimate mission is to become more than just a TwitterTwitterTwitter app and be a browser for the real-time web.

A new version of TweetDeck (v0.30), which launches this morning, aims to push the application in that direction. With Twitter still front and center, the new release also embraces a boatload of additional FacebookFacebookFacebook functionality and adds in MySpaceMySpaceMySpace integration. It’s almost everything Conan envisioned for the year 3000.

The consummate Twitter follower will also love that today marks the simultaneous launch of the TweetDeck Directory which features predefined columns for one-click following en masse and instant column addition to your TweetDeck…

MySpace: No Longer King of Entertainment

MySpaceMySpaceMySpace hasn’t had a good year. It’s been slowly dropping in traffic like a ship unwittingly taking on water, ousted the MySpace founders, hired a new CEO, and most recently, slashed 30% of its workforce. Dark times, indeed.
However, despite all of these ominous signs, there has been one gleaming bright spot: MySpace Music. Specifically, MySpace is still a very popular hub for the music and entertainment community. At least, that’s what we thought until we saw some depressing numbers from Hitwise. The summary: MySpace is losing its entertainment edge… Read on at Mashable

The Web in Numbers: Twitter Back on Track, Wolfram Alpha Plummets

Last couple of months have been very interesting as far as new startups, projects and services go. We’ve seen Microsoft switch its search engine from Live to BingBingBing, and Wolfram Alpha rose to cater to the needs of geeks all over the planet; on the other hand, TwitterTwitterTwitter’s huge growth has slowed down considerably in June. Compete now displays traffic results for June, and I’ve never been more excited to see them, as now we can finally paint some kind of picture about the success of these online services, new and old.
