Tumblr Adds a Real-Time Wire And A MarketPlace For Designers

tumblr-logoMicroblogging service TumblrTumblrTumblr is introducing a few new features today. My favorite is the Tumblr Wire, which is replacing the popular page. Tumblr Wire is a discovery page that shows a constantly-updating stream of images moving across a grid. Each image links to a Tumblog that was updated recently.

The selections are random and photo-heavy, but it also highlights text in a big, fancy font. The whole interface seems, um, highly-influenced by enjoysthin.gs. But it’s a good, visual interface (see also, WeAreHunted), and I hope to see more of it. It makes you just want to sit and watch all the Tumblogs go by. There sure is a lot of soft porn on Tumblr.

Tumblr is also launching Tumblr Projects, a marketplace that matches designers from the Tumblr community with professional publishers and companies who want a slick Tumblog. Designers need to be certified by Tumblr, but it’s a smart way to get higher quality Tumblogs created. Up until now, Tumblr has been designing many of the high-profile Tumblogs itself, so now it can offload much of that work and help its community make money at the same time…

Simple blogging site TumblrTumblrTumblr will reveal its July stats later today, along with a claim that it is “taking over the world”. The site served 255 million pageviews in July, according to directly measured stats by third party analytics firm Quantcast. Twitter Redesigns As Streaming Trends Site

TwitterTwitterTwitter just announced its new home page redesign complete with trending topics and search. Publicly launched at the 2006 South by South West interactive festival, users first flocked to the site as a way to communicate with friends and festival attendees. However, as we’ve seen in the past few years, the site has evolved into a multifaceted real-time tool. The community has given timely updates on earthquakes, the IranIran Iran election and we’ve even seen professional poker players bluff in real-time Tweets. Twitter has evolved into a community where users can discover breaking news and trends and the new home page certainly matches that… Read on at ReadWriteWeb.com

Akibot: An Enterprise Twitter Clone Infused with A.I.

What if TwitterTwitterTwitter understood what you were saying and could then take action on your messages? At first glance, Akibot may look very much like your typical Twitter clone, but it does something very different: it combines the collective intelligence provided by microblogging with an artificial intelligence engine that lets the service take action on the messages posted… Read on at ReadWriteWeb.com

Twitter Traffic More Valuable than Facebook or Digg for Video Publishers

How do you measure the value of a visitor to your website? If the visitor is there to watch video, perhaps the most useful metric is the amount of time they spend viewing it before navigating elsewhere. As it turns out, users who visit videos from TwitterTwitterTwitter links actually spend the most time watching them, as compared to visitors referred by FacebookFacebookFacebook or DiggDiggDigg. According to a study by TubeMogul, Twitter users view a video for 1 minute, 58 seconds on average, versus averages of 1:14 and 0:58 for Facebook and Digg, respectively. Read on at Mashable…
