Google Chrome Themes Video Uses Some YouTube Magic
Google Releases Chrome Version 3
Just two weeks after Google ChromeGoogle Chrome
’s birthday, the search engine giant has unleashed Google Chrome version 3. It’s faster, supports HTML5, and still does not run on the Mac OS.
While the new stable release doesn’t introduce anything groundbreaking (unless you just love custom themes), it does provide some important tweaks. The biggest one focuses on GoogleGoogle
’s #1 obsession: speed. This is ChromeChrome
’s bread and butter. The search company claims that the new browser is 25% faster at executing JavaScript than Chrome V2, among other speed fixes.
While you may not immediately notice Chrome’s increased speed, it will be tough to pass by the new Chrome Tab page, which now sports a new, cleaner layout of your most recently visited and bookmarked websites. It takes out the right hand sidebar and extends your most visited websites across the entire browser tab.
There are a few other updates of note. First is more HTML5 support, specifically the < video >, < audio >, and the < canvas > tags, which help embed video and audio without the need for Flash (here’s a taste of what’s to come). Another big one is Chrome Themes, which were available in the development and beta releases but now make their official debut…

A Major Milestone: Opera 10 is Here
OperaOpera
is a browser that perhaps doesn’t have a huge market share, but it always brings innovation to the table, and is often the leader in many segments, even with fierce competition from ChromeChrome
, SafariSafari
, FirefoxFirefox
, and (now) Internet ExplorerInternet Explorer
. Now, it’s released one of the biggest – at least by number – milestones in its history: version 10.
The new version comes right on time (it was due September 1st), and we’ve covered alpha, beta and RC versions, so there’s no huge surprises here. Perhaps the biggest question is: will this milestone change anything as far as Opera’s worldwide reception goes? It hasn’t happened so far with earlier versions, but perhaps the big 10 at the end accounts for something. In any case, we’ll be monitoring Opera’s market share closely in the following months. As far as features go, the biggest new addition is Opera Turbo, which makes browsing fast even when you’re on a slow internet connection. Other novelties are a fresh appearance, enhanced speed (especially on resource intensive sites such as GmailGmail
or FacebookFacebook
), an improved Opera Mail, auto updating (very important for improving the overall security of the browser), a personalized Speed Dial feature, and resizable, thumbnail tabs.
You can download versions for WindowsWindows

from the official Opera site.

Google Chrome: Now with Bookmark Syncing (for the Brave)

GoogleGoogle
keeps on adding and testing new features for its Chrome browser. Things like extensions and ChromeChrome
for Mac are still missing, although available if you are adventurous and install Chromium, the open-source project for Google ChromeGoogle Chrome
. Chromium has beta and development features that Google is testing before adding to the Chrome browswer. Chromium got a new feature, as it occassionally does, but this one definitely caught our eye. The Chromium team announced the addition of bookmark syncing in the developer’s build of Chromium. The new feature will let you keep the same set of bookmarks on multiple machines as well as store them in your Google Docs. This is not unlike the very popular Firefox extension Xmarks.

Google Chrome to Get Bookmark Sync
Within the next two weeks, GoogleGoogle
will release a new development version of Google ChromeGoogle Chrome
that will include the ability to sync bookmarks between different computers. As Tim Steele, a software engineer on the ChromeChrome
team explained in a message to the Chrome developer group, the synchronization will be managed through a Google account. Changes in one install will be reflected in another Chrome instance in real time thanks to the Chrome team’s use of the Google Talkgoogle talk
servers as the messaging backend for this service. For now, Google will only sync bookmarks. In the long run, the Chrome team also plans to sync other data types, including browser history. In the announcement, the Chrome team did not specify if passwords will be synced as well… Read on at ReadWriteWeb.com
Google: Browser is the Platform of the Future, Even on Mobiles
Every company that’s built a major mobile platform is trying to make their platform attractive for developers and a great experience for users. Since Apple started their hugely popular iPhone App Store (recently they’ve reached a milestone of 1.5 billion downloaded apps), RIM, GoogleGoogle
, Nokia, Palm, and Microsoft have followed suit. But Google thinks that – similar to what is happening in the world of desktops – in the future, the actual platform won’t matter much, because the web browser will become the dominant mobile platform… Read on at Mashable.com
